Our Congregation

St John’s is a family. Like any family, we work together to do what needs to be done, and we take time from our busy schedules to be together. The following are some of the things that make us a family:

Lenten Devotional Day by Day                                                                                                                 We are inviting people to sign up to write a devotional for one of the days of Lent.  You will be assigned a day, and given the lessons for the day from the Book of Common Prayer.  Your devotion can be on one of the lessons, all of them, or a combination woven into something happening in your life.  To sign up, or for more information, contact Fr David in the church office.

Worship
Our chance to put ourselves in the presence of God, and together share in His love for us.

Being Part of Sunday Worship
We ask people to read the lessons and prayers, serve at the altar, be members of the choir and altar guild, usher and host coffee hour after the 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. service.

Coffee Hour
we extend the fellowship begun at worship, and in a more informal setting, spend time with one another, catching up on the events of our lives.

Monthly Family Dinners
Roughly every month, on a Sunday night, we gather for a meal in the evening. It might be at a local restaurant, or a pot luck at church, or at a baseball game in the summer. We have many people attend and participate in these dinners, and they are an important part of our life together.

Education and Formation
We learn and by our learning we are shaped as the children of God. Learning is lifelong, and at St John’s we have learning opportunities for the nursery age, through grade school, middle school and high school, and also adult classes.

Choir
The choir at St John’s is a group of joyful musicians under the direction of Julie Burgess. We are brought together by the desire to make music and to worship God. We welcome everyone, if only for a week or a day, to sing with us.

The women of St John’s have always been an important and active part of the congregation. The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) and St Martha’s Guild are two groups of women concerned with the care of the congregation and its members, and also committed to work in the community. The ECW has an annual cookie sale that raises money for its annual budget for mission both in the church and in the community. St Martha’s Guild hosts special coffee hours and luncheons for funerals held at St John’s

St. Martha’s
St. Martha’s Guild does not meet regularly but sponsors a Quiet Day on Monday of Holy Week. Some members host a birthday party in May at a local nursing home. Members along with other members of the parish host receptions and also offer receptions for families following a funeral. All women are welcome.

Garden Guild
he grounds at St John’s, and especially the courtyard, are an important part of the life of our congregation and in the community. We need volunteers to maintain the garden beds, water the plants, mow and trim the grass. Learn More
